Linux historically expects devices at least to be POSTed on S3 resume, which is not mandated in the ACPI specs. It is obviously important to distinguish two types of problems - kernel bugs that prevents Linux from running on an ACPI-compliant machine from - quirks that a non-conforming machine requires in order for Linux to run.
