my fan is always on a slow rotation and reasonably quiet (though never
off). so it is quite possible that you will not get it any better,
because it is a hardware problem (if i remember correctly, it is also never
off in win*). otherwise you can learn how to hack DSDTs and, if you are
lucky, can really turn it off. though i am definitely no expert at this.

i do not know when this switch happened, but i had never used any
ospm-stuff, neither ospmd, nor ospm-modules. the modules are supposedly
deprecated and i dunno for the daemon, use acpid instead. :)
