[ACPI-sppt] user limit, performance and throttling beep problems

Hi,
I am running a 2.4.20 kernel (RedHat 2.4.20-18.9 + ACPI patch)
on a Celeron 1700MHz in an ASUS M2400E laptop, but there are
some points about the ACPI stuff I don't quite understand:
1) It claims to have limit interface:
# cat /proc/acpi/processor/CPU/info
processor id: 0
acpi id: 1
bus mastering control: yes
power management: yes
throttling control: yes
performance management: yes
limit interface: yes
But then I don't understand why I can't affect the active limit:
# cat /proc/acpi/processor/CPU/limit
active limit: P0:T0
platform limit: P0:T0
user limit: P1:T0
thermal limit: P0:T0
Shouldn't the active limit be P1:T0 in this case?
2) I don't understand why the processor frequencies are identical
in states P0 and P1:
# cat /proc/acpi/processor/CPU/performance
state count: 2
active state: P0
states:
*P0: 1700 MHz, 22000 mW, 250 uS
P1: 1700 MHz, 10000 mW, 250 uS
Also, if I do
# echo -n 1 > /proc/acpi/processor/CPU/performance
it doesn't seem to change the state:
# cat /proc/acpi/processor/CPU/performance
state count: 2
active state: P0
states:
*P0: 1700 MHz, 22000 mW, 250 uS
P1: 1700 MHz, 10000 mW, 250 uS
Why is this?
3) When I activate throttling:
# echo -n 1 > /proc/acpi/processor/CPU/throttling
# cat /proc/acpi/processor/CPU/throttling
state count: 4
active state: T1
states:
T0: 00%
*T1: 25%
T2: 50%
T3: 75%
The processor (I suppose) starts emitting faint but annoying
high-pitched beep sounds (more rapidly the heavier the load).
Why does it do this, and can it be avoided?
Finally, does anyone know whether the CPUfreq stuff will work
on this laptop?
