There are a number of things in the kernel .config file that have to do
with "APIC". Specifically:

CONFIG_X86_GOOD_APIC=y
# CONFIG_X86_UP_APIC is not set
# CONFIG_X86_UP_IOAPIC is not set

Do these have anything to do with ACPI? The most I could find in google
was that a number of people have had problems with their computer locking
up with CONFIG_X86_UP_APIC was set to Y.

Here are a few of the sites I found:

thanks
