yes, I took at least 6 months to compile my kernel properly.
For me the main problem in configuration of kernel in distributions,
is the compile time that is very very big, because compile 80% of
modules that you don't need to use => 3 times more.
But try to find out /boot/config-2.4.19 or in /usr/src/linux/configs.
and copy then to /usr/src/linux.../.config
and make xconfig to see the configuration that you have made and click
in save to finish.
(maybe when I have time , I will put this mini-howto in my web page).

unless the patch feet well you don't should try apply acpi pacth to
other kernels .

I think you don't need kacpid patch to 20020918,see if acpid works.
