Hello. I tried to switch my notebook from APM to ACPI, which nearly succeeded. The system runs fairly stable (I had two random hangups when restarting the X server) but I get kernel error messages from ACPI when I plug the ac adapter in or out. When plugging out, the logs say: Jun 30 19:49:53 achilles kernel: [ACPI Debug] String: QUERY_20 Jun 30 19:49:53 achilles kernel: [ACPI Debug] String: Selector Alarm Jun 30 19:49:53 achilles kernel: [ACPI Debug] String: CMBatt - SMSL Jun 30 19:49:53 achilles kernel: [ACPI Debug] String: CHeck AC change Jun 30 19:49:53 achilles kernel: [ACPI Debug] String: CMBatt - CHBP.BAT1 Jun 30 19:49:53 achilles kernel: [ACPI Debug] String: CMBatt - BAT1 still present Jun 30 19:49:53 achilles kernel: [ACPI Debug] String: CMBatt - Notify(ACAD, 0x80): AC_Removed Jun 30 19:49:53 achilles kernel: exfldio-0111 [43] Ex_setup_region : Field [SWIO] access width (2 bytes) too large for region [SFIO] (length 1) Jun 30 19:49:53 achilles kernel: exfldio-0122 [43] Ex_setup_region : Field [SWIO] Base+Offset+Width 0+0+2 is beyond end of region [SFIO] (length 1) Jun 30 19:49:53 achilles kernel: dswexec-0403 [35] Ds_exec_end_op : [Add]: Could not resolve operands, AE_AML_REGION_LIMIT Jun 30 19:49:53 achilles kernel: psparse-1103: *** Error: Method execution failed [\_SB_.PCI0.LPC0.EC0_.SMSL] (Node c12ea408), AE_AML_REGION_LIMIT Jun 30 19:49:53 achilles kernel: psparse-1103: *** Error: Method execution failed [\_SB_.PCI0.LPC0.EC0_._Q20] (Node c12ecc48), AE_AML_REGION_LIMIT Jun 30 19:49:53 achilles kernel: [ACPI Debug] String: QUERY_20 Jun 30 19:49:53 achilles kernel: [ACPI Debug] String: Selector Alarm Jun 30 19:49:53 achilles kernel: [ACPI Debug] String: CMBatt - SMSL Jun 30 19:49:53 achilles kernel: [ACPI Debug] String: CHeck AC change Jun 30 19:49:53 achilles kernel: [ACPI Debug] String: CMBatt - CHBP.BAT1 Jun 30 19:49:53 achilles kernel: [ACPI Debug] String: CMBatt - BAT1 still present Jun 30 19:49:53 achilles kernel: [ACPI Debug] String: CMBatt - _STA.BAT1 When plugging in, the logs say: Jun 30 19:50:52 achilles kernel: [ACPI Debug] String: QUERY_20 Jun 30 19:50:52 achilles kernel: [ACPI Debug] String: Selector Alarm Jun 30 19:50:52 achilles kernel: [ACPI Debug] String: CMBatt - SMSL Jun 30 19:50:52 achilles kernel: [ACPI Debug] String: CHeck AC change Jun 30 19:50:52 achilles kernel: [ACPI Debug] String: CMBatt - CHBP.BAT1 Jun 30 19:50:52 achilles kernel: [ACPI Debug] String: CMBatt - BAT1 still present Jun 30 19:50:52 achilles kernel: [ACPI Debug] String: CMBatt - Notify(ACAD,0x80): AC_Inserted Jun 30 19:50:52 achilles kernel: exfldio-0111 [48] Ex_setup_region : Field [SWIO] access width (2 bytes) too large for region [SFIO] (length 1) Jun 30 19:50:52 achilles kernel: exfldio-0122 [48] Ex_setup_region : Field [SWIO] Base+Offset+Width 0+0+2 is beyond end of region [SFIO] (length 1) Jun 30 19:50:52 achilles kernel: dswexec-0403 [40] Ds_exec_end_op : [Add]: Could not resolve operands, AE_AML_REGION_LIMIT Jun 30 19:50:52 achilles kernel: psparse-1103: *** Error: Method execution failed [\_SB_.PCI0.LPC0.EC0_.SMSL] (Node c12ea408), AE_AML_REGION_LIMIT Jun 30 19:50:52 achilles kernel: psparse-1103: *** Error: Method execution failed [\_SB_.PCI0.LPC0.EC0_._Q20] (Node c12ecc48), AE_AML_REGION_LIMIT Jun 30 19:50:55 achilles kernel: [ACPI Debug] String: QUERY_20 Jun 30 19:50:55 achilles kernel: [ACPI Debug] String: Selector Alarm Jun 30 19:50:55 achilles kernel: [ACPI Debug] String: CMBatt - SMSL Jun 30 19:50:55 achilles kernel: [ACPI Debug] String: CHeck AC change Jun 30 19:50:55 achilles kernel: [ACPI Debug] String: CMBatt - CHBP.BAT1 Jun 30 19:50:55 achilles kernel: [ACPI Debug] String: CMBatt - BAT1 still present Jun 30 19:50:55 achilles kernel: [ACPI Debug] String: CMBatt - _STA.BAT1 What is wrong here? My notebook is a Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook C-6637 with a 1000 MHz Pentium III (Coppermine) CPU running Debian GNU/Linux (woody) with kernel version 2.4.20, patched with the ACPI patch 20021212, which seems to me to be the latest patch for the 2.4.20 kernel. I also patched against cpufreq which works fine with intel's speedstep (acpi does not). greets -Andreas ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email sponsored by: Free pre-built ASP.NET sites including Data Reports, E-commerce, Portals, and Forums are available now.
