Hi all, some time ago (May) I posted the following: " I have been trying to get ACPI working on my dual xeon dell precision 530 MT but unfortunately with limited success. I have tried various combinations of kernel and patches, e.g. 2.4.21-rc1+acpi. My current focus is on getting power down to work; I have had _limited_ success when hyperthreading is turned off in the bios. Acpid succesfully handles the power button event, and I have it wired to invoke 'shutdown -h now'. This invocation works every time, even in 2.4.18. But when 'Power down' is reached, the system _almost_ always hangs with the message hwsleep-0257 [17] acpi_enter_sleep_state: Entering sleep state [S5] As mentioned I tried disabling hyperthreading, and this seemed to work for a while (with 2.4.21-rc1+acpi), but since a couple of (failed) S1 and S3 attempts, power-down has been hanging again (?!). I would really like to get to the bottom of this; either with your help, or on my own steam. In the latter case, pointers to relevant/updated documentation would be very much appreciated. " [ back to present day] Nobody ever answered :-( I recently decided to pick this problem up again (my wife, who is now a day-to-day Linux user, has started complaining about it ;-) ), and I tried 2.6.0-test4. I still have not had any success with S5. Looks like I'll have to tackle this one myself :-). _Please_ can somebody point me in the right direction on how to solve this? Thanks in advance, Jonathan Ross. ------------------------------------------------------- This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek Welcome to geek heaven. http://thinkgeek.com/sf
