[ACPI-sppt] how to turn the display-backlight off?

hi there =)

im having some major problems with my sony vaio pcg-qr10
and suse linux 8.2

when ideling the display turns to black, but the backlight of
the screen wont turn off. as im running this notebook as
little server, running 24/7 in my bedroom, this is a real pain =(

i was running windows 2000 before and it worked. i migrated
to suse linux a week ago (so im a complete linux-newbe).
since then i didnt get any idea how to achive that.
i tried to compile some alternate kernels (2.4.22 and 2.6.0-test5)
but no real effort ;/

so, does anybody have some idea?
