Ok, after the mail from João I attached, I found the real problem about 
kernel 2.4.22. If I disable the touchpad from the XF86Config-4, I can 
use GNOME 2.2/XFree86 4.3, but, obviously, I don't have the touchpad and 
this is a problem, because I use quite always it with my notebook. The 
.config (http://luca.pca.it/projects/asus/linux-2.4.21-20030925.config) 
is the same as 2.4.21, where I don't have this problem. Btw, I've the 
same problem on kernels 2.5/2.6 and even there the .config is the same. 
So, I can't track the problem.

About the mail I attached, I never tried a not-pacthed 2.4.22, but the 
2.5/2.6 kernels aren't patched, so I can affirm that the problem isn't 
related to ACPI patches.
