Hey Luca - 

I just tried your patch with a 2.4.22 source tree. Hunk #1 against
Config.in says it's already patched. The other two went through just
fine. However, that combination brought on the touchpad problems and
everything seems great except X crashes when it tries to run for me. 

Using the synaptics driver, which I've never used anyway, doesn't solve
the problem. 

Anyhow, sounds like things work well with 2.4.21. I wonder what the
screwy added element is. I've noticed this same behaviour in 2.6 kernels
as well as I mentioned earlier.
