SUMMARY: AMD XP processor and Linux

All responses were overwhelmingly positive. Most everyone had nothing but
great things to say about the XP series' behavior under Linux. Several folks
justifiably warned me to be careful about the motherboard's CHIPSET, however,
and warned that any problems would most likely arise from incompatiably
there.

One responder, George Saxby, has had serious Linux issues with three out of
five XP powered boxes he's sampled (only Debian behaved). I guess one's milage
will vary.

I'm going to go for it (ordered it this past Sunday, actually). Will report if
I run into any problems.

I'm looking to purchase a new (home) PC in a few days and have my eyes on one
that sports a 1.6GHz AMD XP processor (couldn't they have called it something
else?). We run RedHat 8 and 9 and SuSE 8.2 (which is probably what the new box
will run as well). Has anyone on the list got any experience with the XP chip?
For the money, it seems to be the only way to go. Thanks in advance.
