Thanks to everyone who responded. Great forum for
getting help.

I am back to a state where I can at least get
filesystems mounted and data off the box in order
rebuild. There is some sporadic corruption.

Solution:

I booted up off cdrom into recover mode, I was
*unable* to get a manual fsck to fix the filesystem,
but I could get it mounted in order to tar up all the
files in /boot. I then ran a mkfs on the partion and
copied files back. Last step was to chroot to
/mnt/sysimage where the cdrom mounted the filesystems
and I ran "lilo" to rebuild my MBR. Fix various other
corrupted files and I'm back up.

Special thanks to RobR,JohnM,KentS,BrettG,PeteS and
DStimints.

Regards,

Mark Butler
