Hi Folks, I have an old notebook (VERY old...) and I have a harsh environment application for it. I'd like to be able to boot it on a set of floppy disks ( a SMALL set ... :-) ) so that it runs the kernel, X-window, and my one application. I don't think I can rely on a disk because I suspect the vibration would destroy it. This is similar to the Diskless HOWTO, except I cannot boot on the network since there is no NIC on this old box. The booting process with GRUB uses an initial RAM disk that would do the trick, if I could construct the minimum amount of stuff necessary to populate that filesystem to build the initial RAM disk. I think this question can be answered with a list of the bear minimum of stuff in a file system necessary to run a single X-window application. If nobody knows this set, then advise on ways I could derive it would also be most helpful. Chris. Life is a journey, not a destination ...
