First off, I forgot to include the IP addresses of the two machines in
my original message, and I am sorry about that.

This was very helpful.

What the problem appears to boil down too, is a bad setting in the
ifcfg-eth# file. I had the NETWORK value set to the wrong subnet (ie .0
instead of .64) this seems to be why the default gateway was not getting
set.
