Samba and Japanese characters

Hello, I have a strange issue. I have a samba box on SUSE Enterprise 8.0. Default Samba packages, 2.2.5 I believe. When I have a client copy files from his Japanese language windows machine the samba server does not carry the formatting correcting. Have anyone seen this issue or have a work around?
