Summary: Restarted dead daemons
There were 2 main responses:
1: init
Putting the daemon in as a respawn will restart the daemon
should it die.
2: daemontools
A program with very little documentation. I'm still trying to
get it to work.
Other solutions to look at are mon; http://www.kernel.org/software/mon/, and
cfengine. I haven't gotten around to checking out either, but this
information has been archived for further use
Cron and bash is another hack, but I'd prefer to stay away from that right
now.
It was also pointed out that Nagios has an "Event handler" feature built
into it. This appears to be the route that I will go, as I already seem to
rely on Nagios.
