Modem Querying

Hello

I need to query the modem on the serial port, and start wvdial using the
output for the username/password combination.
The command I need to send the modem is AT+MIN?. This will echo back the
modem's phone number, used in connecting to the ISP.
Does anyone know how, either by using minicom non-interactively, or maybe a
script (perl?) that this could be accomplished?
I know very little when it comes to perl, but it looks like perl is capable of
this kind of thing.
