Well, thanks to the following people for their replies: Bishop, Steve
Ochani, Jason Price, Steve Mickeler

As it turns out, there was a minor (and probably not part of the problem)
DNS tweak we had to do. But the biggest issues were the following: the
connectivity supplier for my client was blocking most of the outgoing
messages thru their SMTP server. The router at the client site has 5 or 6
different IP numbers assigned to it and so each email sent out seems to be
coming from a different IP number, or at least 1 of 6 IP numbers. The second
thing, and mort important to me was that spamassassin was killing the huge
amount of mail as spam, even though it wasn't. Being somewhat new to
spamassassin, I had not tweaked the configuration but was going with the
default configuration. This is definitely not working so I will have to
continue to try to tweak it.

To that end, does anyone know of a good tutorial for tweaking spamassassin?
I really do need to understand this better.

Thanks again for all your help.

Dave
