Mail server connection time out

Hello,

I am trying to track down connection time outs to my pop3 and imap servers.
I am running sendmail VER: 8.12 and imap-2001a-18. I use the pop3 server
that comes with imap as I have users who use both imap and pop. I also use
spamassassin with procmail and spamassassin is set to use individual
.procmailrc files. 

There are several points to note that might have some bearing on this issue:
	
	1. This was all working reasonably well a couple of weeks ago and I
have not added anything to the mix since then.

	2. I had a CVS worm at the end of last week that I got rid of by
uninstalling CVS and blocking port 2401 in/out.

	3. I then experienced a snmp flood that I also blocked at my
firewall or udp port 161.

	4. The server itself is an 800 MHz machine with 512 MB of ram. It
does not have a raid setup so maybe a hardware issue? Could it be that the
server can't handle the traffic? I would really be surprised though if this
were the case as I know a lot of people running a much busier email server
with lesser machines. There is about 200 users (email only) on this machine,
although it does have a few staging web sites and some ftp traffic on it as
well.

	5. The issue remains no matter where I access the server from which
would rule out any local issues at my office or my home office. It also
happens from my clients office, which of course is a bad thing.

	6. FTP, which used to be very fast to connect and authenticate, is
now very slowwwww.

	7. I have verified that it is not my firewall as I shut it down for
a short while and the connection was still slow and in fact timed out.

I really appreciate any help I receive and once solved, I will summarize.
