mounting multiple directories on same partition

I don't think this is possible, but I thought I'd ask.  What I'd like to 
do is mount several directories on the same partition, something like this:

/hda1   /boot
/hda2  /
hda3  /var and /home

The idea is that partition 3 has files that are backed up regularly, 
user folders, the web site, the mysql tables, etc.  In my mind, I like 
the idea of separating user data from os data and the user data is going 
to reside in those 2 directories.

Any ideas?
