SUMMARY of DNS on CentOS box: Well after much head scratching and yes .. cursing, and with the help of a couple of people, namely Darrell and Jesse, I managed to figure out what was happening on my CentOS box. Not having used this OS too much in the past, and not being familiar with SELinux, I did not realize that unless named was add to an ACL to include named, which appears not to be added by default. So I was getting permission errors when I created new directories and zone files because of this. Anyway, I basically turned SELinux off for the moment while I research how to properly configure it for my setup and it appears, for the most part ( but not all parts ) to be functioning. Once I figure out the configuration, I will post an update. Thanks all.
