A change in hardware could make them announce the wrong speakers. My latest eureka moment was from setting /etc/asound.conf to defaults.pcm.card 1 defaults.ctl.card 1 For using a USB sound card which is card 1. Very simple, now all my sound comes out there, $10 sound card.
