Hi,
(I am new to the list, not native English speaker and not an expert, so I
apologize for any error or misunderstanding; if this is not the correct
list for my problem thank you for pointing me to the right support list, or
so)

With my ASUS Expertbook laptop, I need to record sound in a very loud room,
so I need to turn down the mic volume, and I do that by the command

amixer -D default set Capture N%

which works fine when N is >=8, but it seems 8% is a threshold because if I
set it at 7% or below, nothing (absolutely nothing) is recorded.

Is there any explanation for that, or any way to troubleshoot the problem?
Unfortunately, 8% is still too high for my use case.

Many thanks in advance for your help!
Best regards
Andrea
