Description of Problem:

My host machine is presently Debian/Sid on a dual-Xeon running 2.4.20, 
Intel MB. I have vmware-4.0 installed and run Windows-XP fine as well as
test new OS such as Ark-Linux.

I have created a new virtual machine which I had hoped to install Ark-Linux and
test it out.  However, it would not install.  The graphical screen came up and
the CD was accessed, and mouse and keyboard worked up to a point where you
picked from three choices which to install.  I tried the two top choices on two
separate occasions.  I did not try the bottom choice because this was an install
over windows which I did not have.  In both instances beyond this point, it
completely hung my system- rock solid.  This is highly unusual from a vmware
machine which meant it must have crossed the boundaries of the virtual machine
and tried to access the real machine and was not allowed and hung.  It was
necessary in both instances to push the reset button.  Fortunately, because I
also use the reiserfs journaling filesystem, I was able to recover without much
trouble.

How Reproducible:

Create new virtual machine in vmware under linux, boot up from the cd, follow
the instructions, watch it hang hard...

Steps to Reproduce:
1. create new virtual machine under vmware with linux host
2. put in Ark-Linux CD and follow the install instructions
3. await a hard hang of the machine

Actual Results:

hard hang

Expected Results:

normal install

Additional Information:
      
vmware is an excellent tool for testing new OS including linux.  The virtual
hardware used is very standard stuff and I would suggest you debug on these
machines before you send out additional alpha/beta/rc test CD images.
