Summary: Assumed to be a problem with XFree86; No GUI
Product: Ark Linux
Version: 1.0 alpha7
Platform: i586 (PC, Intel)
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
Severity: Normal
Affects: Hardware Support
Component: XFree86
AssignedTo: [email protected]
ReportedBy: [email protected]
QAContact: [email protected]
Description of Problem:
Install from bootable CD completes as normal, Upon reboot, multi-boot screen
appears, and scripts are run for loading linux, but at the "start-up"
the "localhost login:" appears, but flickers for a minute or two then disables
with the following message:
INIT: Id "x" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes"
Logging in as "arklinux" user possible, but canot change xf86config-4 file as
user. Cannot login as root. root's password is NOT disabled in the ibiblio ISO
version. What is this root password?
Possible hardware problem; I am runing an HP Presario 7855 with an upgraded
Video PCI card (TNT2 Riva) and the BIOS does not have option to turn off on-
board video... esentially both are running... (pisses me off HP!) I would hope
to correct the problem by running xf86configure, but cannot as "arklinux" user.
