Summary: Grub had incorrect partition selected for WinXP dual-
boot
Product: Ark Linux
Version: 1.0 alpha6
Platform: athlon (PC, AMD)
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
Severity: High
Affects: Overall Usability
Component: grub
AssignedTo: [email protected]
ReportedBy: [email protected]
QAContact: [email protected]
Description of Problem:
2 physical hard drives, first drive with XP preinstalled as an NTFS partition.
Second drive unallocated. After installing Ark and rebooting to verify that
WinXP was still working, the entry for it in grub.conf was found to be
incorrect, resulting in an unbootable XP partition. Grub used (1,0) to indicate
XP when it should have used (0,0). Quite possible this was the fault of the
installer and not Grub.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Whichever version
of Grub came with Ark alpha6 + Windows XP Pro with SP1 installed.
How Reproducible: 100%
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install Ark with XP on the system.
2. Reboot and select XP.
3.
Actual Results: Grub reports that the configuiration for XP is invalid and stops
booting.
Expected Results: XP should boot :)
Additional Information: Fixing the grub.conf file by manually editing it to the
correct setting solved the problem.
