Summary: kernel 2.6 migration tips
Product: Ark Linux
Version: Dockyard
Platform: i586 (PC, Intel)
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
Severity: Low
Affects: Overall Usability
Component: kernel
AssignedTo: [email protected]
ReportedBy: [email protected]
QAContact: [email protected]
Description of Problem:
if you install kernel 2.6test5 you basically get the 2.4 setup with a 2.6
kernel - a lot of things don't work as expected
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
2.6test5
How Reproducible:
100%
Steps to Reproduce:
1.install kernel 2.6-test5
2.boot
3.hotplug usb device, or try to use mouse in xfree or try to listen to
music ;-) nearly everything doesn't work
Actual Results:
a lot of stuff doesn't work
Solution :
follow this guide :
http://thomer.com/linux/migrate-to-2.6.html
everything that is mentioned there needs to be done.
maybe you could include a modified "rc.sysinit-2.6" that is called from the
2.6-test5 initrd and just call /sbin/generate-modprobe.conf as the postinstall
script for the kernel rpm. (at least that could be done...)
something that is not mentioned in the above referenced migration tutorial :
you need to include psmouse in your modprobe.conf to get your ps2 mouse
working with xfree. /sbin/generate-modprobe.conf did not do this for me.
