This is related to the fact that the USB modules have been renamed (usb-uhci 
-> uhci_hid), and this wasn't supported by generate-modprobe.conf. 
 
This is fixed (for new installations) in module-init-tools-3.0-2ark. 
 
For existing installations, you have to either edit /etc/modprobe.conf by 
hand, or regenerate it using /sbin/generate-modprobe.conf >/etc/modprobe.conf
