I think (no quoting me on this...) that samba is the culprit here, since I 
think it's trying to add your UNIX UID to the smbusers file. However root is 
disabled in ark, and causes issues with the samba passwd app because of this. 
Personally I'd like root NOT to be able to be listed in the samba users list 
for security reasons.
