Summary: Installation fails with sda message on ATA HD system and
                    SCSI card
           Product: Ark Linux
           Version: 1.0 alpha11
          Platform: athlon (PC, AMD)
        OS/Version: All
            Status: NEW
          Severity: High
           Affects: Overall Usability
         Component: arkinstall
        AssignedTo: [email protected]

Description of Problem:

I was attempting to create a triple boot system, with Win98 and Win2k.

The current four partitions on two drives are VFAT, except for 9G of free space
on an extended partition of hdb. This free space starts about 7G in from the
start of the drive and is followed by a 42G partition.

The system is a 1800+ athlon on a Abit KG7-Raid, with 256M ram and a nvidia AGP
video. It has two ATA HDs, an ATA CD TDK burner, an ATA CD reader, a SCSI
Exabyte Tape drive, a SCSI Jaz drive and a SCSI Zip drive. I left a 9G free
partition on hdb2.

The installation fails with a message about sda which, in this system, is not a
HD.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How Reproducible:
  Seems to reproduce quite well.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Boot CD
2.Select English(us)and NY clock
3.Express Installation and go

Actual Results:
After a few moments, the install failed with several errors messages about
sda. Would agree that it is hard to install an operating system on sda.

Expected Results:
Expected the installer to find the free partition at hdb2, partition as
required and install.
