The area was originally three partitions, an small ext2 partition, a good size 
ext3 partition, and a linux swap partition. All empty.  After reading the 
install info I deleted the partitions, and resized them to allow more (future)
linux space. At the time of the install, the space was a single free 
(unassigned) area without formating (a big blank spot.)
