artsd Problems

Hi, guys, in the last few days several people as well as myself have had 
problems with artsd locking /dev/dsp.
When this occurs applications that try to access /dev/dsp are denied 
becuase it is in use by artsd. Im not fully
sure if there is a way to chunk artsd and use alsa directly or not. 
Ideally, there should be a way to use those
applications that dont access artsd to have access to /dev/dsp. Maybe 
there can be an option in the new installer,
  to install only alsa, OSS, or artsd. Im not sure how things are 
structured. I think however this is something
that does need to be fixed.
