Another setback

A few days ago I decided to make the time to personalize Ark Linux so I 
could use it more, it was also so I would be a little more motivated to 
build RPMs again. Having learned from previous experience that creating 
new users accounts wouldn't work and was a bad idea I decided to change 
the password for the "arklinux" user instead. The outcome wasn't so 
great, everything seemed to work fine until I rebooted and upon logging 
in I found the strangest problems:
 - When I started KDE I got some error message about permissions.
 - My floppy drive was no longer accessible through Konqueror, I had to 
create the mount point and mount it manually from the console from then on.
 - I could no longer mount drives as the arklinux user, nor could I 
access them as the arklinux user after they were mounted from a root 
console.
 - Kicker didn't load the way it was supposed to, maybe because I had 
moved things around to my preference. The system tray and clock applets 
didn't appear at all.
 - My sound wouldn't work, a strange glitch which always happens after I 
change the password for the arklinux user.

I honestly can't understand any of this, or why it's happening. I do 
realize that we have trouble with ASUS hardware and that is what I have 
along with an NVidia video card, but that doesn't quite explain all the 
problems. I can't see myself continuing like this, I've tried sticking 
with Ark for several months and I have yet to see a release I can 
maintain on my computer. I think I've long since overshot the end of my 
usefulness for Ark Linux, I realize I didn't do much, but most of the 
time I spent running Ark was either in the installer for the umpteenth 
time reinstalling like I would do with Windows 98 when it was toast, or 
stubbornly trying to fix a problem which even Google didn't have much 
incite on.

I think after several months of inactivity it's safe to say I'm gone, 
I'm sorry not only to the rest of you, but also to myself that I 
couldn't do more and learn more from the time I was with Ark Linux. I 
don't see much of a point to making a public announcement in the forums 
or on the web site like AeroClown, because unlike him I hardly had any 
involvement in the last few months, I doubt anyone reading the site 
would even know who I am. If anyone wants to say something about my 
going, that's fine with me, but I won't because I really haven't done 
much at all in the last few months outside of a little participation in IRC.

I still like a lot of the ideals in Ark Linux, especially keeping KDE as 
clean as possible and as free of non-KDE/Qt applications as possible. If 
only I hadn't experienced so many problems with the distribution I think 
it would have been safe to consider it one of the best KDE based 
distributions there is. There is no obligation to delete my account on 
the build server yet, but for security reasons I think it should be 
disabled if that's possible (I'm still not an expert on Linux). I may 
come back eventually if I end up trying a later stable release and find 
it works nicely on my computer.
