Partition Magic is not a free product, nor is it a linux product. It is simply one of the more popular software packages available for managing disk partitions. It's by no means the only software package which can be used. The main issue is simply that, to install linux in parallel on a system already running windows XP or 2000, (with an NTFS filesystem) you will need a 3rd party program to resize the main partition, since our installer cannot do it natively at this time. Which one you use is completely up to you.
