IDE-CD is correct in grub.conf. You'll use the /dev/hdc device in k3b.. and dvdrecord IS somewhat limited.. it needs to be updated badly, or completely replaced with something newer. If you want to really test it, go download a modern copy of cdrecord, build it, and replace dvdrecord with it. See how it works.
