fc5 seek errors - another idea

I was thinking that if mounting the /proc filesystem causes a partition scan then it might be due to a change in the kernel.  I know I had it working on FC4 with Andrew Morton's 2.6.16.rc4-mm1 kernel I think I should try putting that kernel up on FC5 and see if the seek errors go away.
