Sorry to be a bit slow responding to this - I've been rather busy :P

I have both Tenacity and Audacity here with most of the 'extras' disabled. I'm
not seeing slow or faulty startups with either of them. However my use is quite
simple, mostly just recording in a single pass, then top-and-tail plus a bit of
limiting and output level adjustment.
