Help/advice on using Guitarix plugins

Hey hey,
I have found my way into the current Guitarix collection, which is absolutely 
fantastic! But since I am not a guitarist and only used a very limited subset 
of the old LADSPA plugins, I am also stumped.

So, if someone has the patience to guide me a little bit, this would be great. 
Perhaps working on a few example chains, based on songs. I know that a lot of 
production goes into a finished song and the pedals and amp are only one part. 
But I think I know my way around the basic production side enough to have a 
good start that way.
