This is interesting and helpful! What do you mean by "server" managing
the connection? Do you mean a sound server, such as pipewire or jack?
And my "connection" do you mean the bluetooth connection, pairing and so
on, or the actual audio connection? Is there any documentation I could
look these things up in more detail?

The Arch wiki on bluetooth audio (despite me being on Debian) mentions
that "Pipewire enables bluetooth by default"

Thanks, I didn't when I posted my original email. Now following your
advice and having purged the bluez-alsa-utils package from my OS I can
still create a BT connection to the speaker but it will no longer show
up in
	wpctl status 
nor in pqvuctl nor in qpwgraph, contrary to what I found with bluealsa
in place.

Note that I don't have the pulseaudio-module-bluetooth package
installed, as it conflicts with pipewire-alsa, which I want to keep.

Any more help is as alway appreciated!
