[OT?] Problem with CD-ROM

Hi all,

this is probably almost OT, but maybe someone has some insight: I'm
trying to use an older Sun CD-ROM on one of my machines. It's a 1x
Sony CDU-8012 with caddies and an original Sun number, so it must have
been original equipment at some stage. Problem is: I can't boot from
it when I'm using CD-Rs... I've tried my Aurora 1.0 CD-R (written at
8x), but it never gets further than the "S" of "SILO", then hangs.
Same CD-Rs work fine in other CD-ROMs I have connected to other Suns.
I've also tried the official OpenBSD 3.3 CD's, which boot without
problems. A 1x burn of their "Boot-CD image" fails, however, resulting
in a message "SCSI bus hung - some external equipment switched off?"
on the OBP. Same CD-R works fine in anther drive.

Looks like the old drive doesn't like CD-Rs very much. Before I dump
it, does anybody happen to have any more info on this?
