Like many things in life, it depends.

In a generic sense, I disagree with that.  Linux works pretty darned 
well on smaller SMP systems (4 or less CPU's).  I have no experience 
with 8x multiprocessor systems running Linux.

I don't think the core developers have a lot of this sort of hardware 
just laying around.  The only way we're going to find out how 
appropriate Aurora is for midrange systems is to try it and address any 
issues that come up.
