Well, I for one never used yum to update 1.0 - looked like far too much
hassle to bother for me. I was downloading all updates to my own file
server anyway, as I have more than one Sparc and the just went to the
NFS directory where all update RPMs are located, moved the kernel RPMs
out of the way (as I want to update those manually) and did a simple
"rpm -Fhv *.rpm". Works like a charm. Only once did it happen to me that
I had to "rpm -ihv" one additional package manually, as a dependency had
changed. So, if you have the option of downloading all packages
(especially interesing if you want to update more than one machine),
this is the easiest way to go, IMO.
