General question on boot

Dear listmembers,
propably somewhat off topic, but maybe of interest for other people, too. My
Ultra 60 comes with it's own SCSI-Controller. However, when I attached the
Raid-array I am currently using to it things became very slow. This is caused
by the Raid system not supplying sync if the controller is not U160.

So I switched to an adaptec 29160 - and things are just great. But I always
have to boot from cdrom now since otherwise there is a hen-egg issue with the
controller as it is not known at boot time.

Does anyone out there have a clue how to make the system recognize the
controller even though it is sitting in a pci slot and is not known by some
sparc compatible bios that could be used?

Many thanks for any inputs,
take care
