Heh. Gentoo barely works on sparc64, much less sparc32. Scroll down a 
little bit and look at this important note:

Note: Sparc32 support is extremely limited and not entirely supported at 
this time.

They're not doing anything special here, besides claiming hardware support 
that doesn't work (most notably, sun4d and ss5/170).
