I tried to do a cross-compile of the Java source, but I may have gotten the process wrong (never tried to cross-compile anything before). The big problem is that the source is not self-bootstrapping. You have to have a *working* copy of 5 installed locally, in addition to headers for ALSA, CUPS, and all the regular build tools(gcc, etc), to build any of it. I had the same issues you noted below on Debian after upgrading to Etch. Evidently some upgraded libraries have broken Blackdown. The 2.0 version seemed to install fine, though I had to use the Text install, since X wouldn't start up on the video adapter in the box. That's another issue though. Now that I have it up and running pretty smoothly, I'm wondering, what is the state of Java in the Aurora 2.0 release on the UltraSPARC? I've been trying to figure out the packages, and see some GCJ stuff ("This script is a placeholder for the /usr/bin/java...") but no real java. I tried the Blackdown version, but that blew up with a signal 11, even after installing the compat-libstdc++ package. (I'm guessing it's related to the 32/64 bit userspace libs).
