  That's OK.  I'm working with some external constraints (I'm moving
too!) and that should give me enough of a window.

  Do you have any leads on this?  I've been poking some more, and find
that the problem may be broader.  I'm finding that I can't seem to run
any of the gnome based tools with the X-display back to another X server
(FC6 based laptop for example).  The xterm works, as does xeyes, but if
I try to remotely start gnome-terminal over a ssh link, it brings up the
start of a window, flashes a bug-buddy window, and then vanishes.  I use
"ssh -Y", so the ssh tunnel should allow all connections.

  Firefox crashes.  Pidgin creates the toolbar icon, but if I open the
window, it seg-faults.  Gnome calculator does the same blink-bug-buddy
and crashes. Xterm, xeyes and xfontsel (i.e., low level X libs apps)
seem to work fine.

  Most of these seem to work when run directly from the console (running
X), though some of them whine about the fact that the video adapter is
only running 256 colors. :-P
