I've got an old UltraSPARC 2 I recently scrounged when my group was cleaning out an old storage room. I've got a gaggle of SCSI drives in a 12 bay external cabinet, so I'm running it as my main NFS server for both my home directories and a big local shared folder. I've just moved over to it from an aging dual PII/300 (rivendell) which I've used as the Center of All Knowledge on my network -- running NFS, NIS, DNS, DHCP, Samba, and my Postgresql database. I've pretty much ported over everything from the PII to the UltraSPARC, though I'm still having some problems with stability on the 2.99 release, so I'm a little hesitant to really depend on it as my main server yet. I'll be really happy when there is a running 1.5 JDK on this box. I'd REALLY like to move my Apache/Tomcat stack over there, but I'm going to have to stick to another Lintell box for the time being. -- Your Servant, <>< B.
