One additional suggestion to the excellent threads here - I wonder if we could wrap this up in some sort of Australian / Australasian Open Source Awards programme? From memory, the good folx in Aotearoa/New Zealand used to run the NZOSS Open Source Awards but not sure if that is still running. Is there an appetite for something perhaps wider in scope?
