	This bug is so far upstream it's even a problem in debian.

	You need to switch winders.  irssi is like xchat in that it
splits out conversations into numbered windows, instead of displaying
them inline.  The ones that demand personal attention (have your name
in them, or are /msg to you) show up as pink numbers on the status
bar.
