Can you poke around with the effects your LD_LIBRARY_PATH and
ld.so.conf a bit to see what elicits this beastly behavior?

I looked at text of this bug, since it involved building on a Redhat
7.x system which I do often. Lots of details about etiology of RH
libraries and patches that I have no interest in confirming/refuting
on my system. Bottom line is that I don't have this problem building
on my system, which is a current update to what was originally a RH
7.1. Since I'm neither maintainer nor reporter of the bug, don't know
when it should be closed, but if no one else using Red Hat to build
cares, I would go with closing...let someone open a new bug with
current libraries/gar if a similar problem recurs.
